Proposed Skill Development
Library 11 is an elective course for students interested to learn workplace and academic skills associated with libraries and information based services. Students will be an effective team member in our school library setting.
Students will learn about libraries, customer service, print and digital literacy, information architecture and digital media technologies through readings, online tutorials and self-selected inquiry themes. Students will learn effective strategies to approach a variety of project-based and research-oriented tasks. This course will provide knowledge and skill development in library procedures and technologies. Students will explore and create print, digital and multimedia resources. As well, students will learn about customer service and reader advisory.
Most importantly, there is a significant work experience component to this course. Students will help with clerical tasks such as circulating books, shelving materials, and organizing resources. In addition, students will be peer-tutors during library classes and lessons.
Library 11 is open to grade 10 - 12 students in any block. Interested students MUST see the teacher-librarian, Ms. Doyle, before enrolling.
